Whatever type and purpose for your door you want, DoMyQuote will find it for you
Architectural doors have numerous general and specialized uses; Doors are generally used to separate interior spaces (rooms, closets, etc.) for privacy, convenience, security, and safety reasons. Doors are also used to secure passages into a building from the exterior for reasons of safety and climate control.
Doors are generally split into 2 types
Internal Doors
- Pocket doors - This type of door slides from the opening into the wall. The up-side to these kinds of doors is their elegance, and the fact that they allow for complete entry into a room without taking up any space.
- French doors - Another elegant type of internal door is the French door. They contain panels of windows throughout, and therefore, it is also called a "French window." The windows in this door are known as "light" and they allow for light to enter a room, as opposed to other types of doors which restrict visibility.
- Dutch doors - You've probably seen this kind of door in movies or in an old home. Essentially, this is a door that's divided in half so that the bottom and top part can swing open separately.
- Louvered doors - This kind of door is used in an area where ventilation is needed, but not necessarily security, such as a closet or entrance to a laundry room.
- Folding doors--If you're looking for easy access to an area without feeling as closed off as a regular flush door, you might want to look at the folding door. This accordion-style door has panels that fold in on each other, overlapping as with layers.
- Saloon or "batwing" doors - You've probably seen these doors in old West movies, when a gunslinger enters a saloon. A fun type of door, this type of door is lightweight and found in cafes or bars.
- Butterfly doors - Similar to the saloon-type of door, the butterfly door is a swinging door. Unlike the saloon-style though, this kind of door is heavy and opens in one direction, but closes in another.
External Doors
- Sliding glass doors - This kind of door slides open, rather than swinging, and allow access to the outside with the benefit of a large viewing area.
- Revolving doors - An efficient kind of door, the revolving door is made up of wings or leaves that hang on a center pole and vertically rotate in one direction. Either operated by a motor or pushing with one's hand, the revolving door creates an airlock that keeps air condition in the building and hot air out.
- Self-locking door - Created for security purposes, this type of door features a leaf or lock that falls into place once the door shuts.
- Doggy door - Typically a much smaller entrance that's low to the ground, kind of door is a smaller entrance cut out of a larger door. The purpose of this door is to allow only pets to come and go, but still retain security and privacy.
